Screech…..someone had pulled the chain of the train that had slowly begun its journey.
I still shudder to recall how a student got lost in the sea of humanity while attempting to negotiate the platform stairs and how I had rushed up the stairs, yanked her and jumped onto the train that had slowly resumed its journey after the brakes were released. We would have missed the train that day on our return from a study tour to Hyderabad.
Tuesday, 5th January 2015. After 14 long years, I was going, once again on a Study Tour with the Final Years. This time, Goa and Mumbai. And so, the Netravati Express in the evening to Goa, accommodation at CSI Retreat Centre, Cathedral of Bom Jesus, Calangute beach, Kolva beach, lots of sea to see.
Day Three, Matsyagandha Express to Mumbai. Two hours late, air-conditioned accommodation (wow!), India Gate, Nariman Point, Marine Drive, expressway, Fashion-street, zipping through the city in an auto, Linking Road..shop till you drop…lovely dinner….in short busy Mumbai.
A trip that gave me lots of insights into the Whats App generation, their behaviour, reaction modes when their multiple chat screens become unavailable due to unavailability of mobile networks, gifts for Valentine's day and very special presents becoming more important than even presents for their parents, brother or sister.
Day five, Netravati Express back to Calicut. Reaching the station on time, everyone boards and the train begins to move. Suddenly a screech and the train stops abruptly (history repeats). Someone has pulled the chain. Not me, I am now in a relaxed state of mind. Thank God, everything has gone like clockwork.
A BIG thank you to all the wonderful boys and girls of BA Functional English 2013-2016 batch for giving me an opportunity to get a glimpse of YOUR world.
